Svendborg BalletTeater aims to bring classical ballet to new heights and new venues. We create professional performances of high international quality, specially adapted for smaller and unconventional stages, which are otherwise rarely visited by classical ballet companies.

Our aim is to make ballet accessible to a wider audience and bring this beautiful art form to communities and stages where it would otherwise not reach.

Vision for Performances

Svendborg Ballet Theatre will produce two professional ballet performances each year, which will premiere in Svendborg and subsequently go on tour.

World-class ballet

Svendborg BalletTeater will produce professional ballet performances of a high international standard, specifically made for smaller and more unconventional stages that would otherwise never be visited by professional classical ballet performances – something no other Nordic ballet companies have done before.

The repertoire should be broad and diverse, with an emphasis on the classical ballet vocabulary, demonstrating that classical ballet, with its aesthetic, grace, passion, and ability to tell compelling stories, remains relevant to contemporary audiences – no matter where in the country they are.

Vision for the Public

We want to help strengthen cultural life across Funen. Through workshops, teaching, outreach, and cross-cultural projects, we will involve both citizens and surrounding cultural institutions and artists spread across Funen. Svendborg BalletTeater will annually put together a ballet programme specifically for this purpose.

We will help democratise access to classical ballet through a targeted initiative in disadvantaged areas of the local community by offering classes and access to rehearsals and special events during the two productions staged each year.

The art world should be more accessible

It is our vision that ballet, as an art form, should reach a broader audience than those who currently have access to this art form in Copenhagen – or the few other cities that the Royal Danish Ballet occasionally visits.

Svendborg BalletTeater will present ballet of a high international standard in village halls and other smaller theatre venues in towns and cities throughout Denmark. Our aim is for a tour to encompass between 15-20 performance venues per production.

VISION FOR EXPOSURE

We want to attract audiences and international artists to the city for the benefit of both residents, restaurants, hotels and businesses.

Svendborg Ballet Theatre will offer businesses unparalleled opportunities to utilise ballet for various business promotions, conferences, and advertising.

Visibility in local areas

Svendborg Ballet Theatre aims to be an active participant in festivals, town celebrations, and special events, thereby reaching an even wider audience.

Svendborg Ballet Theatre must be visible in the local area – both as a participant and organiser of celebrations, festivals, events and arrangements throughout the local community. Ballet, as an art form, must be brought out to unconventional locations, thereby providing unique, up-close experiences.

VISION FOR RESEARCH AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

Together with leading international researchers, we will actively engage in projects such as Dance for Parkinson's, Dance with Dementia, and other social projects where dance can have a palliative, healing, or distracting effect. An agreement has been made with the Swedish choreographer and researcher Micke Strid regarding dance and dementia, where we will visit dementia wards twice a year with a specially tailored programme.

Close cooperation with schools

We will enter into close collaboration with schools and institutions on workshops, open rehearsals, educational courses, etc. Svendborg BalletTeater will present professional ballet at primary schools, independent schools, nursing homes, dementia centres, hospices, daycare institutions throughout the country, etc. There will also be weekly opportunities to receive instruction from the BalletTeater's dancers and choreographers at the premises of Borgerforeningen Svendborg Teater.
