Two beloved fairy-tale universes merge when Svendborg Theatre Ballet, together with Odense Symphony Orchestra, presents hand-picked excerpts from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker and The Sleeping Beauty.
Svendborg Ballet Theatre is the only professional classical ballet company outside of Copenhagen.
We produce professional ballet performances of high international class, specially made for smaller stages and more unconventional venues, which otherwise would never be able to host professional classical ballet performances.
Our vision is for ballet as an art form to reach a broader audience than those who normally have access to this art form.
The repertoire is based on the steps of classical ballet, but will simultaneously be broad and versatile, demonstrating that classical ballet, with its aesthetic, grace, passion, and ability to tell captivating stories, remains relevant to contemporary audiences – no matter where in the country you are.
Svendborg Ballet Theatre was founded in 2023 by Per Lundsgaard, Ballet Director, and Claus Bjerregaard, Director of Borgerforeningen Svendborg Teater, and consists of a company of international ballet dancers.
We are building ballet performances locally in Svendborg, as well as touring around Denmark and internationally. The repertoire consists of new works created especially for the company, as well as existing works from the classical ballet repertoire.
Svendborg Ballet School offers classes for both children and adults, beginners and experienced.
Ballet is not only a fantastic way to get exercise and strengthen all of the body's muscles, but it is also an introduction to a centuries-old dance technique that forms the foundation for almost all other dance.
The instruction will be given by our ballet director Per Lundsgaard and during the season he will involve dancers from our company to accompany him.

Both actors take us on a journey through dreams, love and hope – with smiles, warmth and touching moments.
The evening comprises three works that together create a cohesive experience full of contrasts – from playful and light to deep and gripping.
The first act opens with classical charm and pure dance joy, as three dancers unfold in a pas de trois created using Bournonville's iconic steps. The acclaimed Dinna Bjørn is behind the staging, which pays homage to the romantic ballet tradition with ease and elegance.
Following this is Maria’s Dream by the award-winning Czech choreographer Petr Zuska – an imaginative and humorous journey into the dreams of the ballerina Maria Taglioni. In a surreal park with four men and swans, we meet Maria, who playfully and charmingly seeks freedom in her own imagination. A poetic and entertaining portrait of a woman who danced her way free from the expectations of her time.
Tonight's final piece, War Letters, brings us closer to reality – yet still with heart and hope at its centre. Inspired by letters from the Second World War, it tells a touching story of love from afar. With beautiful movements and human warmth, the work shows that even in the midst of darkness, light can be found – and even a smile.
Shadows of Light is a celebration of life's many facets – from the dreamy and playful to the serious and moving. An evening full of humour, poetry and dance that touches both the heart and the smile.
