Tour

Classical ballet company

Svendborg BalletTeater produces professional ballet performances every year, which premiere in Svendborg and then go on tour.

We produce professional ballet performances of a high international standard, specifically made for smaller and more unconventional stages, which would otherwise never be visited by professional classical ballet performances – something no other Nordic ballet companies have done before.

Shades of light

Look forward to a moving and contrasting ballet evening in two acts, which, through three works, celebrates the many sides of life. The first act opens with classical charm and pure dance joy in an elegant pas de trois over Bournonville's iconic steps, staged by Dinna Bjørn. This is followed by Petr Zuska's Maria's Dream – a humorous and surreal journey into the dreams of ballerina Maria Taglioni, where she dances her way free from the expectations of her time with playfulness and poetry.

The evening concludes with War Letters, inspired by letters from the Second World War. It is a touching story about long-distance love which, with human warmth, reminds us that there is light and hope even in darkness. Overall, it is Shadows of Light A fully-formed experience full of humour and poetry, that hits both the heart and the smile.

Love & War
– a ballet evening

The first act is a tribute to love. Both the love between people and the love of dance. August Bournonville is the father of the entire Danish ballet tradition, and his effervescent and playful choreography, which looks so light but is devilishly difficult, has delighted audiences and dancers all over the world.

Choreographer and Bournonville expert Dinna Bjørn has put together a brand-new programme for Svendborg BalletTeater, featuring choreography from well-known Bournonville ballets as well as steps that haven't been performed in Denmark for many years. A tribute to dance and the joy of life, and a unique opportunity to experience Bournonville's choreography up close.

The second act is the ballet War Letters, originally created by the young British choreographer Christopher Marney for the renowned British company Ballet Black in 2013, but here re-imagined for the dancers at Svendborg BalletTeater. The ballet, comprised of five movements, deals with the premises of love during World War II, based on the letters sent back and forth between those at war and those at home. A story that is highly relevant in many ways, and sends heart-wrenching references to our world right now.
